Devil's In the Details
Last friday evening, my bestie's dad was visiting London, so we hit the British museum. We spent about 3 hours there (maybe less) and only got through 3 galleries, so I'd say I'm due for another visit sometime soon. Here are some details I picked up while I was there! (And a few overall shots, like this one below.)
The museum has the most beautiful dome overhead.
Impossible to get a good picture of the Rosetta stone, but I thought I'd try anyway.
On to the details! Look at the sculpting of the muscles! Incredible. AND hundreds of years old.
Another ancient piece, somehow amazingly carved with great skill.
We were convinced that this looked like Patrick Dempsey from a certain angle... You decide!
This dates back to Assyrian times, and the detail is just incredible!
Ditto goes for this one! This is a man's shirt in the sculpture.
And look at his hair and beard! Amazing.
Apparently, this is what the interior of the Parthenon was painted to look like. Pretty cool how we can figure that out about buildings made so long ago.
I just thought this was the cutest old man, sketching away.
What's that saying, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, or something?
Y so serious? Oh Buddha...
This guy's a little happier. Or maybe angrier?
Yes, you've seen it right. A man is standing on a cow.
And the same man has arms coming out of a dragon's mouth. Interesting.
This guy's holding a cow in one of his four hands. So. That's neat.
So intricate and colorful! And so old! This is a super close up, so that detail is really detail.
GANPATI! My favorite Hindu god. (Google him, it's a cool story.)
Ancient stamps. So cool.
Another stern looking one.
And the side of another Ganpati (Ganesh).
Well, that's all for my museum details! I think next time I'm going to hit the American galleries (South and North.) But that's another post for another day.
Hope your weekend's going well!
